Care
Clean by boiling in water only. Place the cup in a pot of water and begin on low heat, allowing it to warm gradually before bringing the water to a gentle boil. Let it cool gradually afterwards. Avoid sudden temperature changes, which can cause thermal shock and cracking.

Each Petrol Blue Cup is made entirely by hand. Sold individually. You will receive one cup similar to those photographed, with natural variations in shape, texture, colour and mineral markings that make each vessel individual.
Tea pairings
Highly recommended
Roasted Wuyi, Anxi and Taiwanese oolongs, fuller bodied red tea and dark teas are our strongest pairings, following the recommendations for the matching Purple Ash Gaiwan.
Recommended
Phoenix Dan Cong, highly oxidised oolong, aged oolong, aged raw puerh and aged white tea are recommended.
Less recommended
Light Anxi and Taiwanese oolongs, young raw puerh, fresh white tea, green tea and yellow tea are lower on our pairing list. Compare their fragrance and flavour with a porcelain cup.

Form & material
This 50 ml cup by Saeam Kwon is made from South German black stoneware clay and is entirely unglazed. Its tall, tapered body, gently flared rim and subtle horizontal ridge create a simple silhouette, while the exposed clay brings texture and natural surface variation into focus.
Saeam Kwon
Based in Berlin, Saeam Kwon began studying ceramics in 2009 and trained under Korean master potter Jungki Min. She continued her practice in Seoul and Paris before establishing her independent practice in Berlin in 2017.
Material, form & use
Her work draws on traditional Korean ceramics through a contemporary attention to proportion, texture and lightness. This cup brings those qualities to the small, repeated gestures of drinking tea.
