The object

A rounded form
This 350 ml Tea Basin by Yujian Cai has a rounded body and a gently inward curving rim. Its open form brings a simple, practical vessel to the tea table, with the warm colour of the clay providing its visual character.
Chaozhou red clay
Chaozhou red clay is a naturally iron rich clay traditionally used in the Chaozhou region of Guangdong, southern China. It is closely connected to the region’s Gongfu tea culture.
The clay’s iron content gives it a warm red to reddish brown colour that develops during firing. This basin is gas fired and left unglazed, keeping the colour and texture of the material visible.
Slight variations in colour, texture and firing are natural features of the clay and reflect the handmade character of each piece.
