Care
Clean by boiling in water only. Place the teapot in a pot of water and begin on low heat, allowing it to warm gradually before bringing the water to a gentle boil. Let it cool gradually afterwards. Avoid sudden temperature changes, which can cause thermal shock and cracking.
Your handmade piece
Each Fissure Teapot is made entirely by hand. You will receive a similar piece to the one photographed, with natural variations in shape, texture, colour and mineral markings that make each vessel individual.
Tea pairings
Highly recommended
Our strongest pairings for this pot are roasted Wuyi, roasted Anxi and roasted Taiwanese oolong, red tea, and dark teas such as ripe puerh, Liu Bao and Fu brick tea.
Recommended
Phoenix Dan Cong, highly oxidised and lightly roasted oolong, aged white tea and aged raw puerh are also recommended. Adjust your brewing to bring out the fragrance, body and aftertaste you enjoy.
Not recommended
We do not recommend this pot for fresh white tea, young raw puerh, green tea, yellow tea, light floral Anxi oolong or light Taiwanese high mountain oolong. Choose porcelain when exploring these delicate or fresh styles.
Choose a tea family
Keep the unglazed pot dedicated to one tea family or a similar flavour profile. The circles represent our pairing recommendations for this vessel, rather than laboratory measurements.
The object

Form, texture & detail
The Fissure Teapot by Yizhi takes its name from the pronounced texture across its rounded body. Its charcoal surface is patterned with irregular fissures, contrasting with the smoother lid, short spout and curved handle. A textured loop on the lid echoes the body’s surface, bringing the details of the form together.
A built in mesh filter holds back tea leaves as you pour. With repeated use, the vessel becomes part of your daily tea ritual, its character shaped by the teas brewed within it.
Jingdezhen wild clay
Jingdezhen wild clay is naturally occurring clay and mineral rich earth sourced from the wider Jingdezhen region. Minimal refinement preserves its original character. Unlike the highly purified porcelain for which the city is renowned, it retains variations in iron, stone and other minerals, giving each piece its own texture, colour and surface.
This teapot is gas fired. Heat brings out the natural mineral character of the clay, with subtle differences in colour and surface from one piece to the next. Small irregularities and mineral markings are part of its handmade character.
Each vessel carries an expression of its clay, firing and place of origin, revealing a quieter, more elemental side of Jingdezhen’s ceramic tradition.
